I have a few movies that I really like - a lot of old ones:
- Giant - starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean - about a cattle baron who marries a beautiful debutante and takes her home to Texas. His sister leaves a small parcel to a ranch hand who ends up striking oil on the property and becomes extremely wealthy. It follows them until they are grandparents.
- Gone With the Wind - starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. Most people know what it's about, the south in the Civil War.
- Guess Who's Coming to Dinner - starring Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier; their daughter brings home the man she wants to marry; though extremely open minded for the early 60's, the parents express their concern about their very white daughter marrying the very black Sidney. Very ahead of it's time and awesome message about acceptance.
- Wizard of Oz - Judy Garland - y'all know.
- It's a Wonderful Life - Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed - what would the world be like if you were never born.
- Shanendoah - Jimmy Stewart - a man searches for his son after he is taken as a prisoner of war during the Civil War when the man refused to allow himself or his sons to fight in the war.
- True Grit - John Wayne, Kim Darby, Glenn Campbell - a young girl partners with a crotchety old marshal to find the man who murdered her father.
- McLintock - John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara - awesome old western and very comedic.
- Cat Ballou - Jane Fonda plays a school marm who becomes a criminal when she tries to find the men who killed her father.
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - Howard Keel is the sexy oldest brother; and they all want women of their own
There are some newer movies (okay, not too new), too, that I can't help but watch whenever I see they are on:
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Matthew Broderick - sluffing school and doing cool stuff
- Vacation and Vegas Vacation - Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold
- Ten Things I Hate About You - Heath Ledger - loved this movie!!
- Sixteen Candles - Molly Ringwald - the geek wins the cool dude
- and along that same line - She's All That - Freddie Prinze Jr.
- Ever After - Drew Barrymore is Cinderella
- Grease - John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the most fun movie - I saw it about 15 times in the theatres
On the other hand - I have to mention a couple of movies that make my heart very happy and they are ALL DISNEY!!!
- Beauty and the Beast
- Cinderella
- Lady and the Tramp
- and I think I really need to add Tangled to the list - it makes me very happy and I love watching it with the cutest princess ever!!
10 Thing I Hate About You is one of my all time favorites! :)
ReplyDeleteAll those movies like that during that time, if they are on, I can't help but watch them. I have seen all of those movies about 20 times!!
