Date With Color - Rapid City

In keeping with our annual tradition of seeing the Autumn colors, this year Ted and I headed to Rapid City, South Dakota this last weekend. This was our second attempt - you see, the first one didn't go very well.  About two weeks prior, our little jet tried to land twice - descent, landing gear down, lower, lower, lower - - then back up again.  The clouds were too low and we couldn't land.  We ended up in Gillette, Wyoming and sat on the plane while about two-thirds of the plane's passengers got off - not wanting to end up back in Salt Lake or in Denver.  We tried to land again and same thing.  We turned around and went back to Salt Lake.  I was a bit cranky and Ted always is the target of my cranky.  Sorry, honey!! This time, we were successful.  We went straight to Mount Rushmore - enjoying the scenery as we went.  The memorial is about 25 miles from Rapid City.  After spending time, having some lunch and doing some shopping in the little tourist town of Keystone, we

Getting to Know the Conrad Clan

Ted and I traveled to Joplin, Missouri this last weekend.  The visit was double fold, as we were going to see his family, but also to say goodbye to his brother-in-law Bill who was dying and not expected to live very long.  I had only met with Bill probably four times in the time I had been married to Ted.  He had been a career military man.  He exuded that quiet strength and because of that, he  reminded me a lot of my father.  I never knew him to be anything but kind.  After visiting with Ted's sister Mary for a couple of hours, we left to have dinner with  the rest of the family - leaving Mary there with her extended family of Bill's children and grandchildren.  He passed away about an hour after we left.  He had been in a lot of pain and I'm sure it was a relief for him and his family to see him not suffer any longer. This weekend with Ted and his family, memories of Bill and such, caused me to reflect on my meeting his family.  Ted is the oldest son and second born

Florida with Awesome Kids

This is WAAAAAAAY late in posting.  But, I wanted to share some photos from my Florida trip.  My daughter was working for JetBlue, but found that it wasn't for her.  So before she left her job, she was trying to get another trip in to take her kids on.  I kind of invited myself - which helped out, because going with three and one of them not being able to ride some of the rides was going to dampen the fun.  Daddy wasn't able to take time off work.  We had the greatest time and I enjoyed myself so much.  We flew out on the red-eye to Orlando (we still don't know how we got on this plane, we really shouldn't have) on June 22 and came home from Tampa, Florida through New York on June 25.  Quick and amazing trip. Top 10 - Why I'm the Luckiest Wife

I was thinking today how lucky I am to have Ted in my life.  Here are my top ten reasons why I am so danged lucky.  He's pretty awesome. When I have a virus in my computer, he stops everything to fix it and make it better. When I get dressed and ready to go, he'll say, "well hello gorgeous". He loves to touch, caress, hug and kiss me. On the days I work, I work double shifts.  I work early morning, come home to eat and take a nap, then work a night shift.  When I get home, my bed is turned down so I can climb in and go to sleep for about an 60-90 minutes.  Plus the remote is on the pillow, so I can turn the tv on before I fall asleep. He makes me breakfast every Saturday morning. He wishes me a "happy monthaversary" every twelfth day of the month - for the day we got married. Plus he adds up the number of months. He just likes hanging out with me.  Whether we are sitting on the couch, driving about town, yard sale-ing, or travelling.  He just lik

Follow Your Heart

I've kind of been feeling sorry for myself the last couple of weeks.  I've been frustrated with the fact that I've gained five pounds in the last few months.  For me, it's really hard to lose it.  I've been considering some drastic options to try and get rid of it.  And the ups and downs have been frustrating. Today, I went and spent some time with my two grandbabies.  My grandchildren keep me grounded and happy.  All eight of them make my heart happy.  I spent a little more time than I had planned on spending, because Miss Penny needed a nap and was fighting going to sleep.   So, I took her upstairs and read her the same book about five times and sang some lullabyes to her to get her to finally fall asleep.  Nothing more wonderful than snuggling a baby until they fall asleep. Then I headed to Lowe's to get one more storage unit to go in my living room to help hide the movies and some weed killer.  When I pulled the cart into the check out lane, there was

Things That Make You Go HMMMMMMM - - - - #32

Social media, such a powerful tool.  Or is it a weapon?  Or is it a scam?  Or is it a platform?  Whatever it is, it is certainly powerful. I am on several social media sites.  I have my blog.  I have a Facebook account.  And I have others.  It's the way of the world.  There are not many people out there that do not have a social media link - including my husband who absolutely refused!!  I won't reveal what he has. Today, I was struck by the epiphany of the power of social media.  Whether you agree or disagree, social media sends things along a technical superhighway and people can say or do almost anything that can be truth among some and fallacy among others.  The facts may or may not matter in certain stories!  Today, the Supreme Court made a decision.  Now, whether or not you agree or disagree with it, it's a major decision for our country.  As this decision was sent down, I get the usual stuff in my Facebook feed, "-----liked this" or "-----comm

Montana - FCA and a Glacier

First a history lesson.  Not your usual history lesson, but a lesson about how I learn. When I first applied for the job I am doing now, the advice I got from my friend Marsan was to study the airline codes.  And I did.  I wrote them down on index cards and that stack was about six inches high.  I needed to learn them all.  A lot of them were pretty simple - some of them were pretty hard.  Absolutely no way to reference why they were what they were.  Most of them were international ones that I had trouble with and a few were domestic.  I would go through that stack of cards every chance I got.  Then I found a website on the internet, Quizlet, where someone had already done the work for me.  It was computer based.  It would test me on the codes.  One of those codes was Kalispell, Montana.  The code is FCA and I could not get it.  So, finally I came up with an acronym for it:  effing cold airport.  You can make the effing whatever "F" word you want, I know the one I used.
