Where There is a Bucket List There is a Way - Honolulu 2019

We made it - to the top - two out of shape old farts!! When Ted was coming home from Connecticut a couple of weeks ago, he had to take the long way home - which meant five airports, lots of walking and finally home.   When he got home, he said with all that walking, he realized he felt in better shape than he had in a long time and felt like he could actually fulfill our goal of conquering Diamond Head in Waikiki.  We had planned to do it a few years ago - but he injured his foot and we didn't feel it was something that could be accomplished because of that.  Some quick planning and finagling for time off and such,  we decided that we were going to try it. Getting to Honolulu was not easy.  We woke up Saturday, made sure all our bags were packed and ready, I jumped on the computer and booked our hotel and airport transportation.  Then I  looked at the flights.  GAH - they were horrible.  The night before, they looked like no proble...

Plateaus and the Turtle Club

I'm starting this before I head to my Weight Watchers meeting in about a half hour.  So - it will start before I get the determination on how this week has been for me. It's been a struggle this month.  Slow going but I ended strong!! This month has been a struggle.  I gained the first week.  The second week, I lost all that I gained, plus another .6 pounds.  The next week, I was exactly the same.  So for the month of August - until this point - I've lost .6 pounds the entire month.  That is less than one pound!!! Turtle time.  Plateau time.  My body just didn't like what I was doing and was reacting by not doing much of anything.  I was frustrated to say the least.  I didn't know what to do to change what was going on. This last weekend, Ted and I went to visit his mother and his sisters in Joplin, Missouri.  We flew into Kansas City late Friday night.  We then drove the three hours it takes to get to Joplin on S...

What April Brings

April - it's been an odd month.  Just new things happening and old things starting up again.  The weather has been one of those usual up and downs.  That time of year when it can be 75 degrees and lovely outside and twelve hours later the wind starts up.  The wind blows in the clouds and the storms start.  Mother Nature will flip a coin and decide if you are going to get snow or get rain - but, usually you end up with both.  Two days later, it will be 75 degrees again. You can literally go from wearing flip-flops and capris to long sleeves and snow boots in the span of twelve hours.  But, hey - wait another twelve hours and it will change again.  It just  means it is Spring in Utah. I was so in love with the Houston Space Cow.  He was in the lobby by the Delta check in counter. The month started out with me working in a totally different world.  I got the call that they needed a few extra agents in Houston because of the c...

A Daily Dose - ICK Vitamins

I'm not getting any younger. I'm not getting any healthier - anway by my habits. I'm not getting any skinnier - again, by my habits. I'm just not getting. My 16-hour day the other day is still causing me effects.  Ankles are a bit tender.  I could hardly move at all yesteray.  But, this has nothing to do with vitamins. That whole routine about the definition of crazy, I am the definition of crazy.  Doing the same thing over and over and over and over again expecting a different result.  OK, that may be a bit of an overstatement - because on most things, I am a bit socially acceptable and sane.  I don't fart in public.  I don't talk to myself - very loudly - in public.  I don't throw medications in the air and call them confetti.  I don't scream obscenities without a reason. So, for the  most part, I can be considered sane. But, battling for healthy habits is where the line between sane and insane starts. I have started ...

Google, WebMD and Bing - - - OH MY!!!!

I look in the mirror and I see someone a bit overweight, a little chubby.  It's not nearly as horrible as I think.  I still can be a sexy, desirable woman. I see a picture and I can't even imagine that that is me.  All I see is an old, fat, ugly woman.  What would Ted ever see in me - if this is what he really sees.  Case in point: Me and Penny napping together.  How many chins and rolls does Grandma have?? I don't know how many times in the life of this blog I have said, "I'm going to get control of my life", "I'm so going to lose weight",  "I'm going to get healthy" and "I'm going to exercise".  At this point, I say to myself - you're a liar, you're a fool, you're nothing but a fat lady that doesn't see the truth in the mirror.   I was fine living in my fantasy land until about five days after December 30.  That was the day that I opened my email and had a notification of my blood test resu...

Just Say NO

I went to my doctor yesterday.  It was all the usual.  Blood pressure is not ideal - STRESS.  We'll check your cholesterol because you stopped taking your cholesterol medication - STRESS.  Diet Coke doesn't help you lose weight - you wanna see STRESS, take that away from me. I've gained a thousand pounds - STRESS.  It sucks to be a stress eater.  But, I am.  My year started with Ted being in ICU for two weeks - during that two weeks, I didn't eat at all well - STRESS.  When he got home, he was 35 pounds lighter.  Then he did really well and went down fifteen more pounds.  I think most of that has returned - a true testament to our unhealthy lifestyle.  Couch potato lifestyle.   My mom got really sick and we didn't know if she was going to make it much longer - STRESS.  New job - STRESS.  Kids - STRESS. I told the doctor that I had been looking at LapBand surgical sites, I just couldn't take it.  He told me that...

We Shook on Whaaaaaaaa?

Ted and I went to the Murray Parade two days ago.  We got there early enough we got to watch the people running the 5K.  They went up and then they came back.  So, we got to watch every part of it, every person in it and all the different shapes, sizes, ages, generations, thins, chubbies, talls, shorts, youngsters, oldsters.  We watched people running, walking, riding in strollers, riding a Jazzie.  We saw Boba Fett running, we saw a ballerina with pink hair running.  Some people ran the entire way, some people walked the entire way. What it made me realize is as I watched the people go is, I wish I was in shape enough to do something like that. So, I sat there and commented continuously on how impressed I was with people who were actually doing it.  I watched people bigger than me doing it and they were actually running!!!!   Maybe not fast, maybe not continuously, but they were running.  I saw women with my same old "ghetto bootie" out ...
