Happy Birthday Rustie!

I have a new member of my family. She is rather adorable. She officially became a member just nine days ago when she married my son. So far, this is what I know of Rustie. She is not a conventional girly girl - she abhors pink; but, she does love to go shopping for clothes - especially at RUE21, she likes getting her nails done and such. She really rocked the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen - she's got a very lovely shape to make it fill out, just the right curves. She loves her animals and treats them well, but, she knows when to put the hammer down if they are being disobedient (mostly my cute Ozzy Dog). She and my son (her husband - EEK) communicate so well, it's freaking frightening. They know more about each other in these last thirteen or so months than Ted and I do in seven years. Hell, I don't know who Ted's favorite super hero is. I don't think I even know what Ted's favorite color is (however, I could probably guess and get it ri

Jitters

I am up in the middle of the night. I try to go back to sleep, but my brain is swirling miles and miles a minute. My stomach is tied up in a HUGE knot. I've got the night sweats, can't cool down for anything. No, I don't have the flu. I'm just a mess. I think things really hit me Wednesday night. I was reading Crystal's blog, where she said that it really had hit her - her baby brother was getting married. She is so sweet and I understood. I was sitting here on the couch with Ted and I just started to kind of sob; he was sweet to take care of me and hold me. My baby can't get married, he's just a baby. He is an awesome man - but, he's just a baby. This week has just screamed by. I have been so busy doing stuff and preparing for the wedding. Monday and Tuesday were spent cooking. Wednesday and Thursday I was cleaning and running around. Today we are having a dinner for the wedding party. Tomorrow is the big day. This man, who is actually a

Done at Disney - A Wrap-Up

So, I got home around 11:30 this morning. I have to say, I can barely keep my eyes open. I thought I would share some final thoughts about our trip. The Awesome: 1 - spending time with my sisters and my mama. 2 - the fact that we spent four nights, three days in one hotel room with one bathroom and didn't kill each other. 3 - going with Wendy and Cheryl for their firt time on: Soaring Over California, Hollywood Tower of Terror and California Screaming. 4 - getting a cute flower painted on my face (I have never had my face painted before!!) 5 - making the guy on the bus blush by offering to let him sit on my lap. 6 - Monkey Business!! The only thing at the Rain Forest Cafe that tasted good. 7 - watching Wendy snuggle that cutest little girl on the bus. 8 - getting a "Happily Ever After" button because Wendy was a crybaby! 9 - giving my button to a little girl in a Tangled princess dress - she kept coming over and talking to me at breakfast and showing me her cute dress.

Southern Cali - Day Three - Last Day

Today was crazy at the parks. I think the population of the world was stuffed inside the two Disney Parks. It was absolutely crazy!! We did so very little, but, we got the things done that we had not done. So, all-in-all, it was a very productive day. We started out in California Adventure - we did the Toy Story ride there. It was pretty fun, something I had never been on. And there was a couple of other things there that we did that we weren't able to do yesterday. We then went over to Disneyland. We went to the Mr. Lincoln exhibit. That was pretty cool. I honestly didn't know it was there and the last time I remember seeing it was when I was like six years old. So that was pretty awesome. We did Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, got my trash kicked by Wendy - it was a little bit of revenge for me kicking her butt on the Toy Story ride. We had dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe and then Wendy and I went shopping - the rest of the ladies went back to the room and were

California Adventure - Day Two

OK, so we found out we are a bunch of old ladies that really can't keep up. We have the greatest of intentions, but, we lost steam. Around 6:00, we were done, we were finished, we were exhausted. We went to California Adventure today. I broke my sunglasses yesterday, so the very first order of business for me was to get me some new ones. I got me some very awesome and cool black sunglasses with pink Mickey's on them. They are awesome, freaking cool!! We then went over and got our fastpasses for Soaring Over California. If you have never been on this ride, and you get the opportunity, you must GO!!! Two things to remember; ask for ROW ONE and SNIFF!!!! On row one, you don't have feet dangling in front of you, you're way up high and it's AWESOME!!! Then we went over to the Tower of Terror. My sister Cheryl and my sister-in-law Wendy have never been on these rides, so this was new to them. We screamed and laughed and giggled on this ride. It's very cool

Disneyland - Day One!!

We went to Disneyland for our first day. This is a trip of all girls. All grown up girls!! Some would see us as a group of elderly, old ladies. I am here with my four sisters (one is my brother's wife) and my 82-year-old mother. It started out with the six of us getting up and ready for our "early" entrance and trying to get six women ready with one bathroom (we did have two sinks) is not easy! The even more comical part was the six of us trying to find a way to the park. Here we are, walking hotel to hotel trying to find out how to get on the bus. A different story was told at each hotel how to get there. Eventually, a city bus came along and told us there was another one coming that would go to the park. The driver on that bus looked at us like we were ABSOLUTELY FREAKING CRAZY!!! He just told us to get on the bus and didn't charge us. Took us around to the other street and let us off in front of the park. We then went and got a wheelchair and we were of

A Lifetime

I was at work today and I walked by Jim's office. He has a hand-written calendar on a white board outside his office, it' a countdown of how many months he has until he hits being on the job for thirty years. You see, thirty years is the magical year; it's when you have enough time on the job that you can retire and collect 60% of your salary for the rest of your life. While I was standing there, I had a realization - as of today, I have worked at my job for 29 years! Now, to me, that is rather amazing. There is only two things I have done longer than that - be Crystal's mom and be a daughter and a sister. I started in 1982!! Now, let's think about what was happening 29 years ago. Tootsie was the #1 movie that week. The #1 song that week was Centerfold by The J. Geils Band. Ronald Reagan was president. Scott Matheson, a personal hero of mine, was governor for the great state of Utah. On that day, the Russian spacecraft Venera 14 landed on the planet Venu
