Annual Date With Color - 2016

Road trip!!!  Ted and I try and go places to see the fall colors.  The last two years, we've gone out of state to do it - 2014 we went to Portland, Oregon and 2015 we went to Rapid City, South Dakota.  This year, we stayed local.  We went on the Mirror Lake Scenic Drive and up to Evanston, then back on I-80 home.  Just want to share some photos to journal our journey.  I worked this morning - and it was a pretty rough morning - and as soon as I got home, I changed my clothes and off we went.  Here are our photos. On our way up I-80 Rockport Lake Rockport Lake - the tower sticking up there is an Osprey nest tower.  They built several of these towers for Osprey Ted was so excited by this - he had to turn around and go back for a picture.  You'll appreciate it if you are a Dr. Who fan I forgot to get my SD card for my camera. We had to stop and get one at the ACE Hardware store in Kamas. So - this was our test selfi...

Plateaus and the Turtle Club

I'm starting this before I head to my Weight Watchers meeting in about a half hour.  So - it will start before I get the determination on how this week has been for me. It's been a struggle this month.  Slow going but I ended strong!! This month has been a struggle.  I gained the first week.  The second week, I lost all that I gained, plus another .6 pounds.  The next week, I was exactly the same.  So for the month of August - until this point - I've lost .6 pounds the entire month.  That is less than one pound!!! Turtle time.  Plateau time.  My body just didn't like what I was doing and was reacting by not doing much of anything.  I was frustrated to say the least.  I didn't know what to do to change what was going on. This last weekend, Ted and I went to visit his mother and his sisters in Joplin, Missouri.  We flew into Kansas City late Friday night.  We then drove the three hours it takes to get to Joplin on S...

Optimism - Needed

Today I had my first significant weight gain since April 20.  I gained 1.8 pounds.  The only other weight gain I have had in that time was .6 pound - and that really had to do with water retention. So - I'm trying to keep my head up.  I'm trying to keep my focus.  I don't want to become apathetic and decide it doesn't matter.  Because it does!!  I want to become healthy.  And to become healthy, I need to lose weight.  It goes hand in hand. Nothing like a graphic to show you that you need to get your focus back.  Yeah - that's my weight loss graph. Where did I go wrong last week?  Well, I ate stuff that I shouldn't have.  And I ate too much stuff.  I really wasn't too active either.  Other than some time at a park with the two grandbeebees and a shopping spree with the two grandkiddos, no real exercise.  I need to become more active and I haven't done a great job of it.  Once I get to the work out part - a...

The Art of the Fart - Oh My!!!

OK - I know that is a pretty disturbing title.  But, oh my GOSH!!!!  I am bloated!!!!  Honestly, with as much hot air that has been leaving me, I don't know why I don't have a string attached to my feet and I'm floating along instead of walking.  Honestly, what the heck?!??!??! I don't know what is causing it - but I'm truly a fart machine.  Now, honestly, I know it's the diet.  I know it's what I'm eating.  But, I'm not really sure what the culprit is. My food intake is a lot of veggies and fruits.  Fruits have become my passion.  And I'm eating a lot of them.   And to make it worse, my favorite has been cherries.  I have been eating them like they are candy.  And since it's the last part of the cherry crop, I've been buying them a lot.  Like a bag a day or every other day.  I was doing this knowing I really wouldn't get any more until next summer. Now - I've never been a crazy cherry eater.  I liked the...

Unclutter Your Life - - - - Or in my Case, the Closet

I was shocked the other day when I got home and there was a large bag of clothes in the living room.  All bagged up - ready to go to the thrift store.  Ted never gets rid of stuff - so I was really excited when I saw that he actually had done some downsizing.  I kept threatening to do it myself, but I knew I would never do that to him.  I had to let him do it.  But, it made me really happy. Going through the things I had not worn for probably two years or even more It gave me the motivation to go through my own closet.  Or a least my lower rack of clothes.  I still have another part of a rack to go through - - - that doesn't include one of the closets upstairs.   So - I pulled out all the old jeans and khakis and went through them.  I figured if they didn't fit - either too big or too snug - they were going in the thrift store bag and I figured I would be emptying my closet.  All but about three pair fit!!  I was astonish...

When You Are Ready to Quit

The last couple of weeks have been somewhat frustrating in my journey.  Usually when I get to this point, I quit and decide I'm just a failure anyway, so why even try anymore. Just two days ago, I was showing that I had gained probably three pounds.  I knew some of it was going to be water retention.  But, I was so frustrated to watch that scale go up and then up again and it wasn't stopping.  I made bad choices out of frustration.  On Saturday, we ate out for every meal - because we were not at home. On Sunday, we went on a drive and we ate out for a meal - I tried to make good choices, soup and salad.  Then on Monday, we had a barbecue for Independence Day.  We had good food here and I tried not to overdo; barbecue chicken, potatoes and salad - even dessert was angel food cake and fresh berries.  The scale was telling me things I didn't want to see. Last night, Ted and I went to a movie (we saw Central Intelligence - it was pretty funny). ...

Another Weight Battle Story

So - I've made it known that I'm doing Weight Watchers.  It's the fourth time I've started this.  I'm kind of plateauing and it's frustrating.  But, I'm really not plateauing, I'm just not making the best choices all the time.  Last week I gained .6 pound.  This week, I lost one pound - but when you take into consideration that .6 of that is weight I've gained, that means I really only lost .4. This week for example - I wasn't really great at the beginning of the week.  Not always eating the best things.  Then I kicked myself in the butt, and said I needed to do better and I needed to track and journal my food intake.  I've been watching my scale really closely and honestly thought I was going to get that second number on it to change this week.  Then last night was a particularly difficult work night, I didn't drink as much water as I should have.  This morning, I  could tell that I was retaining water.  The biggest clue t...
