When 9-11 happened, Ted wanted to do something. Ted is an extremely patriotic individual. He looked at re-joining the military, but was a wee bit too old to re-join. He looked into becoming an air marshall. He looked into anything he could do to serve his country. Ted remembered that his dad used to be involved in the Civil Air Patrol and he contacted them. For those of you who don't know, Civil Air Patrol is an auxillary unit of the United States Air Force - it is 99% volunteer, very few are paid. Ted is not paid.
Ted spends one night every week involved in his duties there. He also spends another night every other week; plus when there is an exercise or special project he's involved in, he spends more days and evenings. He volunteers ALOT of his time to C.A.P. He has gone through the ranks and is now a Captain and expects to be promoted to Major sometime this year. He is the Director of Communications for the Utah Wing. This means he handles all of the radios and radio equipment for the entire state of Utah. He is extremely smart when it comes to this equipment (well, he's completely smart when it comes to just about everything). Last summer, he spent several weekends travelling the state installing radio repeaters in various locations (he still has a couple to do this summer).
Ted has received several awards over the last few years that we've been together. He's been named Communicator of the Year for the state twice. He was even named Communicator of the Year for the region one year (that encompasses several states in the west). Plus, he's received several other awards. Last night was the C.A.P. banquet. Ted received a Commander's Award for all the work installing the repeaters last year. This also included re-programming hundreds of radios and training all those people using the radios how to use them. A major task, indeed!!
Ted is an awesome sort - I'm proud to be the person he chose to spend his life with. I love him.
Congrat's to your man. He is awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was in the Air Force & maybe he can volunteer for something, since he has nothing to do since he's moved here.
Since Ted loves communications & radio's, maybe he should come our way :)
Natalie - your dad should check it out!! There are lots of retired guys there!! It would be cool for him!!
ReplyDeleteI love Ted. He is so great. I'm very glad you married him.
